Wanderlust with Artist, Anna Mazzotta

Over the past 2 months, I have been secretly plotting my next poetry challenge.  Yesterday, I decided to modify my course of action.  My original intent had been to just do a one and done month but, then I started to look deeper into the number of MAGNIFICENT works by Artist Anna Mazzotta.  The diversity and numbers snapped in my mind; my entire body started to radiate.  I messaged Anna right away to obtain her permission to write poetry based on her work exclusively for an entire year.  This will be my third attempt at a year poetry long challenge and given Anna’s work as my muse – I know for a fact that it is genuinely going to be a soulful year riddled with every single emotion worthy of exploration via the oil paintings and charcoal drawings, Anna has so generously furnished my imagination with.

It’s kind of comical, all the stars aligned for me yesterday.  Let me start from the beginning, months ago my dear friend Tony had been performing a set at The Bedford of Balham and sang the most beautiful and mesmerising song entitled “She Has An Eye” which had been inspired by Anna’s work.  That prompted me to ask Anna for an interview, which is on the blog for all your wonderful optics to read.  But, to me there was something missing, I desired more of Anna’s work, as it genuinely resonated with me.  Throughout the course of my life, I’ve felt as though I do not belong in our contemporary world. When I step into the drawings and paintings designed by Anna, I feel so much at home.  Anna’s work exudes this old world feel, where simultaneous character and quirkiness is genuinely appreciated. Her dreamscapes, constantly have me shaking my head in disbelief of their true beauty and eloquence.

This is where the stars align, yesterday while I was scrolling through Facebook, I noticed a video of Anna’s work, paired with a voice that is VERY familiar to me.  I was beyond elated & excited as a mutual friend, Spyros Melaris had taken both of their beautiful work and combined it into one visual masterpiece. I’m so grateful to be sharing that with you now at the start of my year long study of poetry based on Anna’s remarkable work.

Everything is made up of carbon...

Without further ado!  Let’s start this 365-day expedition with the SPECTACULAR Anna Mazzotta!

Urban Glamour

I had an extremely
difficult time as a child
when it came to properly
being able to explain
my philosophies
and thought
process.

One day
I saw a movie
that made complete

sense
   in
   my
   mind

in terms
of how to properly
decipher
the methodology
behind imagination
and creation.

The movie
is Finding Neverland,
when Sir James
Matthew Barrie
would discuss
creatures of mythical
proportions – which
come to life as exhibitions
of glamour disguised
by the human
condition.

If you change
the colour of the optic
in front of you,
you’ll see there’s
an integral illumination
that nourishes
a mind that seeks
peace
in their imaginarium
disguised as an oubliette.

There have been a plethora
of moments in my life
where, when I look
at individuals –
I can actually envision
them as whimsical entities
surrounded by the normalcy
of life. I honestly
relish conceptualisation
as depth of perspective
will always change
with each individual gaze.
