a funny thing happened on the way to the forum

i was NEVER a theatrical kid
my preference, to be a siren
when the opportunity
presented itself
to merge

hesitantly – yet another
trial by fire moment
to add to my prosperous
repertoire of insanity.

my knowledge of the theatre
was little to none.  i literally
had no idea – to reference
macbeth was thought
to be heresy.  our director
literally went ballistic,

“WE DO NOT SPEAK OF
THE SCOTTISH PLAY
EVER! now, step out those
doors, spin three times, spit,
curse, once done knock
on the door and we’ll allow
you back in.”

once i re-entered the stage
we were finally able to begin
rehearsals.  i’d been cast
as a protean – I played
multiple roles which included

slaves,
       citizens,
              soldiers,
                       eunuchs.

i’ll admit it was a whimsical
experience.  however, the backstage
antics, frustrated my best friend
who’d been responsible for the entire
audio set-up and maintenance.  you see,
on opening night, some of the students
thought it would be amusing to pinch
other students on their behinds
prior to their entrance on stage.
i did not take part, even back then
i had a very concrete definitions
of boundaries in my mind
and refused to cross
certain ones.
